Hello, avid readers! It's Martha, yours truly, back again this year on National Rare Disease Day with a brand-new post on Epidermolysis Bullosa. EB is a genetic disorder known sometimes as, 'The Worst Disease You've Never Heard of' and also the 'Butterfly Disease'. What does it mean, you ask? Well, when someone has Epidermolysis Bullosa, it means that the collegen in the epidermis layer of their skin is either lacking or not there at all. This causes blisters similar to those of a burn victim to occur whenever the skin undergos any friction. Friction can be caused by simple things like giving a hug or picking up a toy. The unfortunate children born with this disease are not likely to live past their first year of life, and if they do, they will be wheelchair bound by the time they reach twenty. As I'm sure you can all see, Epidermolysis Bullosa is absolutely 'The Worst Disease You've Never Heard Of'. Thanks for reading, and pop in next year for another rare disease!
